For most gardeners this is the most boring time of the year. The weather is too cold to work outside and it”s boring inside. But, I like to use this time to collect my seeds from all over the yard. Eastern red buds, japanese maples, mimosas, and lots of the flowers have seeds on them. Then I save them in pill bottles and label them with the date. Next year, I will have plenty of flowers and trees. If you can stand the cold now is a good time to add compost to your garden it gives it time to work it”s way into the soil and in the spring when you till it in it will be even better. Manure should be spread early so that in the spring it won”t burn young roots. Another good fertilizer is fish emulsion, I often use this when I clean out my ponds. Another thing about this time of the year is that everything is ugly and dead, everything accept the bamboos. They stay green all year. Magnificent plant. Gotta go for now see ya later though.
