Water Garden Clean-Outs

Water garden clean-outs

Water garden Clean-outs

Water garden clean-outs are important to the life of your pond. It keeps your pond healthy for your fish, frogs and other marine type animals. Water-garden clean-outs are easier to do when done every couple of years. Or maybe even once a year. It really depends on the amount of debris that builds over a years time. Water garden clean-outs keep the methane gases from building up which will make fish sick or even die. I have nine ponds and I have a lot of water garden clean-outs to do this year. But I’m just gonna do it one at a time. Fill them back up with fish again and get more water lilies to cover them with. My water lilies are slow this year because of all the debris blocking the sun. Update: Just had my first water-lily bloom today 5/30/2014.  They are very slow this year normally I would have 10 or so blooms by now. Everything is off its timing this year. Bamboos are all shooting at the same time and that never happens. However that doesn’t change the fact that the water gardens need to be cleaned out for the health of the fish, and other animals that live there. Gases build from the first day you clean out your pond because the fish waste never stops. But it does however fertilize the plants. But get too much and you fish could get sick or even die. Here is a plant that can help you with your algae problems many times in just a few days. Read the reviews! Gabelman’s Gardens

Water Garden Clean-Outs The Sooner The Better

The sooner you get started the better. Because there will be an algae bloom. All ponds and water gardens in the sun will get an algae bloom. When this happens the water turns green like pea soup. And oxygen levels are depleted. Water garden clean-outs will eliminate the green water but you must cover 60% of the pond surface. Or the algae bloom will happen again. The best way to do this is with water lilies. Water lilies will cover the surface completely if you let them. So this is one plant that works great at keeping the algae at bay. More plants will take up all the nutrients needed for algae to grow. And without food algae cannot grow. Be sure not to over-fertilize your plants or you could be adding to the problem.

Gardening Season Time To Get Started

Gardening Season is upon us soon and I’m itching to get started. Getting me some potting soil today and starting my seeds. I have more seeds to plant this year than ever before. Because I’m increasing my vegetable start program. What I mean by that is I will have more vegetable starts for sale this year than any other year. I’m concentrating on my vegetable starts this year because it a fast easy way to make some serious cash. It may only be a dollar or two at a time but I use this method to sell lots of other plants unrelated to vegetable plants. For instance I sell bamboo plants so when people come to buy bamboo I also offer them my vegetable starts and 90% of the time they buy, buy, buy. I also sell water plants, trees and other perennials. This gives me even more opportunities to sell the little veggie plants. here is another way I will be selling my vegetable starts  www.amazon.com/shops/A13JAQNPXDNX at my new Amazon Store.

Gardening Season The More You Grow The More You Know

In my opinion experience is the best teacher. I mean don’t get me wrong research is another great teacher. But I mean I learn more by doing. Hands on experience has no match. When it comes to gardening season I try to grow every different kind of plant that I can. Even some that won’t make it through the winter. Like elephant ears they must be dug up or you will more than likely lose them. They will only grow during gardening season in Zone 6 unless you have them in a heated greenhouse.

Gardening Season

Gardening Bamboo

When I started growing bamboo I knew nothing about the plant. Now I know more than I ever even thought I could. It’s crazy but I actually understand this plant that is so misunderstood. I get it I really do. And if you grow it you probably understand the same things I do about this magnificent plant. I believe the plant was put here by God for us to use for building purposes and manufacturing purposes. I mean really I believe it is the perfect plant. It has an unlimited number of uses. It is a renewable resource and will replenish itself every year provided that it is maintained properly. It can make anything from clothing to computers. Now what other plant or material can do that. Get your gardening season off to a great start by planting some bamboo this year. You can get it right here on this site and have it shipped right to your door.

Gardening  Season: Bamboo Would Benefit Everyone If We All Grew It

Other than plastic which is man-made. And harmful to the environment. bamboo actually helps the environment. Take yourself back about  20 years or more and see how many products were being made from plastic and are now being made with organic materials like bamboo. Organic materials in a landfill become dirt. Plastics never go away and continue to weep poisonous chemicals back into our soil rendering it useless. I mean think about it! If we could eliminate the need for plastics by using bamboo to replace it our landfills would become giant piles of use-able soils. Instead of great big heaps of poisonous trash. that never goes away. With all  the products being made from bamboo there is no way the supply can keep up with the demand. This puts us all in a great place to benefit from growing bamboo. Plus just the things I use it for around the house benefits me everyday and every year. Once you understand the plant and how it grows it is easy to contain. Because it grows new canes every year the older canes which are the strongest canes can be cut for use to make products. Leaving the new canes to age and get their strength. A bamboo canes is strongest in its 5th year of growth. And I mean strong.  But, don’t get me wrong there are some very weak bamboo as well. These grow to enormous sizes but the wood quality is terrible. They are mostly grown for  their size and beauty. If you grow bamboo and maintain it you can profit from it. I hope you have learned something here today. Unfortunately, I’ve gotta go gardening season is right around the corner and I’ve got a lot to do.

Thank You

Growing Greenhouse Tomatoes How

How To Grow Greenhouse Tomatoes

Growing greenhouse tomatoes is easy to do. Because in a greenhouse you control a lot of the factors that you cannot outside. Watering, weather, humidity, fertilizer, light and ph of the soil. These are all the things needed in growing greenhouse tomatoes. And when you can control these factors you can achieve greatness. Gardening, particularly growing greenhouse tomatoes is better than growing outside because you have a lot longer growing season inside the greenhouse.

Growing Greenhouse Tomatoes

Inside my greenhouse I feel like I have power over the plants and can make them do what I want them to do. Because if they need more light I can give it to them. If they need more water I can give it to them. And if they need more heat or fertilizer I can give that to them, too. It feels good to be able to control these factors because it helps you learn and grow.

Growing Greenhouse Tomatoes In The Fall

If you have a greenhouse then you know how your seasons are longer in there. I can start growing greenhouse tomatoes sooner than I can outdoors. I can also keep the plants and produce growing all the way up to December 31. I have done it now 3 years in a row. Eating ripe tomatoes around Christmas is nice. I used to be narrow-minded about growing greenhouse tomatoes but after a little practice they taste as good as the ones grown outdoors. I also provide the new seedlings with bottom heat to get them off to a great start.

Trying New Methods Of Growing Greenhouse Tomatoes

Growing greenhouse tomatoes is fun and easy. If you have a greenhouse I suggest you try it. Tomatoes, cucumbers, and green bell peppers all do well inside a greenhouse. Well with the longer seasons you can learn how to lengthen you producing times or stagger your planting times to have two good seasons of growth. I try to do both. This year I’m going to do it even different from I did last year and stack growing boxes 3 to 4 ft above my in ground beds. To keep my plants shorter and up my production. I believe it will make a big difference in production but we will see. I will keep you updated.

In the spring be sure to visit Gabelman’s Gardens to get all your vegetable plants or seeds to get your garden started off right. Winter Weather Slow Down

The winter weather is here and for us gardeners is it a major set back. If you’ve ordered plants from us please be patient. We haven’t forgotten about you. We are under snow and ice right now and getting hammered on a daily basis. So as you can see we are under stress and we promise your order will be filled to your satisfaction. Those of you having to wait will be compensated with extra plants. And we will do our very best to make sure each and every customer is completely satisfied to the best of our ability. Again we apologize for the inconvenience we have caused. We also offer a money back guarantee with no questions asked.

Winter Weather Can Be Tough On Plants

Winter Weather

Winter Weather

Another reason we cannot ship right now because the temperatures are cold enough to freeze you plants during shipment. If the plant freezes it may die. More than likely it will die. Then you will be unhappy and so will I. If you are patient I can promise great plants and more than you paid for at my loss and your gain. We appreciate every customer. We want your business. And we will do our best to keep it. During normal winter weather we would be shipping all year-long. But when the temps dip down so low. the plants will freeze on a shipping dock. So for that reason temps need to be normal(above freezing) winter weather before I will ship the plants. And they need to sustain for at least 3 days for shipping times.

Gabelman’s Gardens Offers A Full Refund

If for any reason you are not satisfied Gabelman’s Gardens will give you a full refund including shipping. Just call (859)635-0922 and I will refund your money. Stay tuned for more information on gardening, landscaping, water gardening, growing bamboo, raising and breeding fish, digging lakes, ponds and streams. Growing perennials, trees and shrubs. Micro-Climates How To Use Them

Many gardeners live in areas where almost anything can grow easily. Just plant the seeds and water it for a few weeks, and you have got a beautiful plant. But if you live somewhere like Kentucky, or Southern Ohio. You can surely understand what its like to have a slim selection of plants that grow well here. It can be quite a challenge to grow a large variety of plants. Especially when the area you live in seems to be working against you. Some people try to solve this problem by feeding their plants every type of chemical fertilizer known to man. To that I say go back to the basics. Also, if I’m growing fruits or vegetables. I don’t feel very comfortable eating something that is composed of chemicals.

Create Your Own Micro-Climates

Creating a micro-climate will do this naturally. And is much healthier for the plants. Micro-climates protect plants from weather extremes. Giving the plant a better chance to survive. And thrive. I grow many different bamboo plants in micro-climates because of their hardiness or lack there of. Micro-climates will also reduce the need for watering. Because without the sun beating down on them the plants will not dry out near as fast. A theory that I have relied on in the past to grow many types of plants is that of creating a micro-climate for each type of plant. This is when you regulate the sunlight, shade, moisture, and wind factors for each separate plant. It sounds like a challenge, and it is. But you can control these factors. In such a way that the plant feels just like it is in the ideal growing conditions. This can be achieved by the use of wind barriers, shading umbrellas, extra water, or different types or amounts of compost. Or you can simply surround the plant with other plants that shade it and protect it. If you’re ready to take on creating micro-climates, you’ll need to make a detailed plan in advanced. You should start by finding a large shade providing bush or tree that will grow fast and naturally in your area. Just look at some undeveloped plots of land and see what is there. Most likely it grew on its own without any planting or care. This is what you want to happen. Usually the growing of one plant can bring about the growing of another more desirable plant.

Shade Micro-Climates

One of the many benefits of micro-climates is that you can grow less hardy plants inside the micro-climates. There are many different ways to create micro-climates. If you have a fence in your backyard then you have a good amount of shade to work with. You can start the micro-climate using just the shade of the fence, combined with a screening plant like

Bamboo Micro-Climates

Bamboo or large bush to shade your new plant for the other half of the day that the fence doesn’t take care of. The fence is also useful for shading against wind for very fragile plants. Once you have the shade, be it natural or unnatural, you have created a slightly less harsh miniature environment. You must remember this is a gradual process, and find a new plant to put in the shade of the other one. Now your choices are a little more open. You don’t have to go with a rugged plant like the one you did before; you can now choose a plant that survives in cooler weather.

Micro-Climates Around Ponds Or Streams

If the plant you are trying to grow next requires more moisture in the air than your area provides. Installing a fountain or small pond can fix this problem due to the evaporation. Water gardens put water vapors in the air when running fountains or water falls. They actually change the climate around them. It’s just like the watering process, only indirect. As an added benefit, usually fountains are quite aesthetically attractive and a great addition to your garden.

Choose Cold Hardy Plants To Create Micro-Climates

I’d like to tell you every step and every stage of the process, but everyone’s goals and setups are slightly different. So to reach your goal, you should do research on every plant that you would like to have in your garden. Find out everything you can about the zone that it flourishes in, and ask yourself how you can emulate that zone within your own backyard. Almost always you can take control of the environment and recreate whatever you wish. Usually all it takes is some planning and strategy. I always try to push my limits when it comes to growing plants. Because I grow to sell. So I need to know what I can get to grow here and how to do it. So I experiment with bamboo and water plants that are normally not as hardy. Just to see what I can get away with. And I sell them all right here at my Amazon Store  www.amazon.com/shops/A13JAQNPXDNX
