Greenhouse Gardening

I love  to garden in the greenhouse for many different reasons. For One I control the climate. I also control the amount of water and fertilizer that my plants need. Gardening in the greenhouse is all together different from gardening outdoors. Animals will usually not enter the greenhouse so I don’t have to worry about them eating everything to the ground. After all there is nothing more frustrating than to put  in a whole bunch of work on a garden only to find out weeks later that the animals have already eaten everything to the ground before you could get any produce at all. You can only imagine how angry I was. So I moved my operation indoors. With much success I might add. Not bad for my first year greenhouse gardening.

The Greenhouse Effect

When spending any length of time inside your greenhouse remember to always have good ventilation. Because greenhouse gases will build up and can make you very sick or even pass out. You might not even know and then you’re laying on the ground. Gases come up from the ground  and get trapped inside the greenhouse. The gases can become very dangerous if not ventilated properly. It’s true I found out the hard way. Trust me ventilate. Plus if you don’t ventilate it can get up to 140 degrees in there and that alone will fry every plant in there.

Build a Greenhouse

When planning a greenhouse consider building it yourself out of recycled materials. This will save you a lot of money which you can then use on plants to fill it with. I built mine using recycled windows and recycled wood, but I did use some lumber that I bought and roof panels  that I bought. Try to grow using all organic methods and practices. You food will taste better and be healthier done the old-fashioned way. But that’s just my opinion and I’m old school I like doing things they way my father and grandfather taught me. They are the best methods and still work today. Heck I still have seeds from when my father used to garden over 25 years ago and some are still viable. Talk about heirloom seeds.
